There is no single rule for deciding when to begin therapy. You also do not need to be experiencing a severe mental health crisis to benefit from professional support.

Consider reaching out when:

1. Your emotions feel increasingly difficult to manage.
Persistent sadness, anxiety, anger, fear, or emotional exhaustion may indicate that additional support would be helpful.

2. Your sleep, appetite, or energy has noticeably changed.
Changes in basic daily functioning can sometimes accompany emotional distress.

3. Your usual coping strategies are no longer working.
Things that previously helped you manage stress may become less effective when circumstances or symptoms change.

4. Your relationships or work are being affected.
Mental health difficulties can influence communication, concentration, motivation, patience, and connection with others.

5. You simply feel that something is not right.
You do not need to have a diagnosis before speaking with a therapist. Sometimes recognizing that you are struggling is enough reason to seek support.

Therapy can provide a private, supportive space to understand what you are experiencing and determine what steps may help you move forward.
